PDSA Petaid Hospital, Oldbury

  • Client: PDSA
  • Value: £1.4 Million
  • Location: Birmingham
  • Role: RIBA Stages 0-6

The PetAid Hospital at Oldbury, is a new design to achieve faster and therefore cheaper construction combined with future flexibility.

The external fabric of the building uses cladding panels and aluminium double glazed windows to provide a low maintenance envelope.

The layout of the building has been designed to provide display areas for sales, improved queuing at reception to avoid congestion and improved pet segregation.

The administration suite is now situated near the main entrance of the building with the ability to have its own access door. This are can be used independently from the rest of the building for owner training, staff training and other out of hours activities.

The building is a single storey construction creating greater flexibility and avoiding the need for a lift and duplication of facilities on each floor.

The building has also been designed with future extension in mind and can easily be adapted to create additional consulting room and theatres.

Access to and around the building is also improved with visibility between work areas increased to improve staff efficiency.
