This is a commercial development which creates a local centre focused around a key transport Junction.
It provides for local shopping needs with retail use on the ground floor and a gym on the first floor.
The two-storey design is in scale with its residential neighbours which surround it on 3 sides, concentrating the main activity away from these private areas. A ‘green wall’ separates and creates a visual link with the house gardens.
The new area included a wildlife garden for use by the local school. Additionally, the pitched sedum roof creates a significant landscape feature. Designed to maximise the use of materials from the Green Guide, brick walls face the residential areas; timber and louvres are used extensively elsewhere, the timber weathering over time; and the shopfronts have large dramatic double height glazed elements to provide views in, colour, light and activity.
The building is designed to achieve BREEAM excellent.
